EMT prepares the student to render pre-hospital basic
life support at the scene of an emergency, during
transport of the sick and injured or during inter-facility
transfers. Selected topics in anatomy, physiology,
patient assessment, and emergency treatment will be
presented. Provides skills training in the application of
theory learned. Provides clinical experience in actual
patient care settings. Successful completion of this
course will allow the student to take the national
certificate examinations for EMT-Basic.
This program requires student dedication and a significant amount of self study in addition to the classroom and clinical hours. Minimum hours of attendance must be maintained to be eligible to complete the class and there are very few classroom hours that may be missed in order to maintain eligibility. The National Registry exam is the current certifying exam for the State of California and its Counties. Successful completion of the class and the certifying exam are only parts of the certification process with the State of California and the County of Ventura.
